Alpha Globin Known Family Variant Test

A blood test that checks for one specific change in an alpha globin gene that has already been identified in the family. These genes make part of hemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying protein in red blood cells, and changes in them cause alpha thalassemia, an inherited form of anemia.
