Rebuilds a torn ligament on the side of the joint where a finger or thumb meets the hand, restoring the sideways stability needed for pinching and gripping. It is used when a ligament has been torn away or stretched out and the joint gives way under load. The joint is usually splinted afterwards while the reconstruction heals.
