This is additional time spent directly stimulating and recording from electrodes placed on or in the brain to identify which areas control movement, sensation, or speech. It is typically performed as part of a longer evaluation before brain surgery, most often for epilepsy or a tumor near a critical area of the brain. The added time allows the medical team to test more sites so surgery can be planned around the brain's important functions.
