Wada Test For Brain Hemisphere Function

Connecticut rates for HCPCS 95958

This test temporarily numbs one side of the brain with a fast-acting medication delivered through a blood vessel, while brain wave activity is recorded and the patient performs language and memory tasks. It helps a surgical team figure out which side of the brain handles speech and memory before certain brain surgeries, most often surgery to treat epilepsy. Recording electrical brain activity during the test helps confirm that the medication is working as intended.
