It is a limited version, covering muscles in one limb or a small group of non-limb muscles, and is used to help find nerve or muscle problems that cause weakness, pain, or abnormal sensation. It is different from a study that checks how quickly electrical signals travel along nerves, which uses electrodes taped to the skin instead of a needle.
