Home apnea monitoring follows a baby's breathing pattern, breathing rate and heart rate continuously at home over a period of weeks, so that pauses in breathing or unusually slow heart rates are captured and can be reviewed. The overall service divides into separate parts — fitting the monitor to the baby, collecting and computer-analyzing the recorded data, and a clinician reading it and writing the report — and this covers one of those parts rather than all of them. Parents are shown how to use the equipment and what to do if the alarm sounds.
