Using rapid or precisely timed electrical pacing through catheters already inside the heart to deliberately bring on the abnormal rhythm a patient has been having, so it can be identified and studied. Once it has been captured and analyzed the rhythm is stopped, usually by pacing again or with a shock. It is performed as part of a larger electrical study of the heart.
