A thin tube is threaded through a vein into the right side of the heart and the lung arteries in a person with a heart defect present from birth, to measure pressures and oxygen levels directly and to map how blood is traveling. Imaging is used to steer the catheter and pictures are recorded during the study. The findings guide decisions about surgery, medication or the timing of further treatment.
