Heart Muscle Biopsy

Vermont rates for HCPCS 93505

A small sample of heart muscle is taken from inside the heart so it can be examined under a microscope. A thin catheter with tiny jaws on its tip is guided through a vein into a heart chamber and several pinhead-sized pieces of the inner wall are collected. It is used mainly to check for rejection after a heart transplant, or to find the cause of otherwise unexplained heart muscle disease.
