Balloon Widening of the Aortic Valve

Vermont rates for HCPCS 92986

A catheter carrying a balloon is threaded through a blood vessel up to the valve at the outlet of the heart's main pumping chamber, and the balloon is inflated to force open a valve stiffened and narrowed by calcium or scarring. Opening it lets blood leave the heart more easily, easing breathlessness, chest tightness, and blackouts. The chest is not opened.
