Emergency treatment for a person whose heart has stopped beating effectively. Chest compressions are given to keep blood moving, breathing is supported, and medicines or an electric shock are used as needed to restart a normal rhythm. It is performed by a team working against the clock, and covers the resuscitation effort itself.
