An injection of ready-made antibodies against the chickenpox and shingles virus, given into a muscle to protect someone who has been exposed and cannot rely on their own immunity. It gives immediate but short-lived protection and is used for people at high risk of severe illness, such as newborns, pregnant women and those with weakened immune systems. The charge covers the antibody product; giving the injection is billed separately.
