Assisted Fertilization of Eggs in the Laboratory

Vermont rates for HCPCS 89281

A laboratory step in fertility treatment where an embryologist uses fine instruments under a microscope to place sperm directly into collected eggs, instead of leaving sperm and eggs to combine on their own in a dish. It is used when sperm are few or slow-moving, or when fertilization failed in an earlier attempt. The eggs are then watched over the following days to see which have fertilized.
