Measures how much of the blood's oxygen-carrying pigment is bound up with carbon monoxide, using a sensor resting on the skin instead of a needle. It gives a reading within moments and is used when carbon monoxide poisoning is suspected, for example after smoke inhalation or exposure to a faulty heater.
