A laboratory technique that separates the proteins in a tissue sample by size and then uses a specific probe to pick out and identify one of the separated bands. It shows whether a particular protein is present and whether it is the expected size. It is used when a diagnosis depends on identifying one specific protein in a sample of tissue.
