A screening test for cervical cancer. Cells brushed from the cervix are rinsed into a vial of preservative liquid, then spread as a thin layer on a slide and examined under a microscope for abnormal or precancerous changes. The liquid method produces a cleaner slide than the older technique of smearing the sample directly.
