Combined HIV Antigen And Antibody Blood Test

Kansas rates for HCPCS 87389

A single test on a blood sample that looks at the same time for a protein from the HIV virus itself and for antibodies to HIV types 1 and 2, reported together as one combined result. Checking for the viral protein as well as antibodies picks up infection earlier, because that protein turns up in the blood before antibodies have had time to develop. It can be run either in a laboratory or as a test giving results on the spot.
