Influenza A Rapid Antigen Test

West Virginia rates for HCPCS 87276

A patient sample, typically from a nasal swab, is treated with a fluorescent-tagged antibody and examined under a specialized microscope to detect influenza A virus. This method looks directly for viral particles in the sample rather than growing the virus in culture, giving a relatively fast result. It specifically identifies the influenza A type, as distinguished from influenza B.
