West Nile Virus Antibody Test, IgM

Rhode Island rates for HCPCS 86788

This blood test looks for a type of antibody the immune system makes early during a West Nile virus infection. A positive result suggests a recent infection, since this particular antibody type tends to fade over time. It's ordered when someone has symptoms consistent with West Nile virus, such as fever and headache, especially after a mosquito bite in an area where the virus is present.
