Measures how well fibrinogen, the protein the body turns into the mesh that holds a blood clot together, actually works, by timing how quickly a sample clots once the reaction is triggered. It is used to look into unexplained bleeding, heavy blood loss, liver disease, and clotting that has run out of control. Measuring how much of the protein is present, rather than how well it functions, is a separate test.
