A blood test that measures the portion of prostate-specific antigen circulating unbound, or free, in the bloodstream, as opposed to bound to other proteins. It is typically ordered alongside a total PSA result to help estimate the likelihood that an elevated PSA level is related to cancer versus a noncancerous prostate condition.
