Myoglobin Level Test

North Dakota rates for HCPCS 83874

This test measures the amount of myoglobin, a protein released into the bloodstream when muscle tissue is damaged, in a blood or urine sample. It is used to help detect significant muscle injury, such as after a crush injury, extreme physical exertion, or a heart attack, since damaged heart muscle also releases this protein. Results are reported as a specific measured amount rather than a simple positive or negative finding.
