Blood Test For Free Hemoglobin In The Plasma

Kansas rates for HCPCS 83051

This laboratory test measures hemoglobin that is floating free in the liquid part of the blood (plasma) rather than safely contained inside red blood cells. Finding elevated levels can signal that red blood cells are breaking down faster than normal, a process called hemolysis, which can happen with certain blood disorders, transfusion reactions, or mechanical heart valves and pumps. It requires a standard blood draw.
