A laboratory test that checks how a particular blood enzyme behaves when a chemical is added to it, in order to identify people who carry an unusual form of that enzyme. Those with the unusual form break down certain muscle-relaxing anesthetic drugs very slowly and can stay paralyzed and need breathing support far longer than expected. It is used after such a reaction and to check relatives.
