Stone Analysis Using Infrared Light

Vermont rates for HCPCS 82365

A stone that has formed in the body and been passed or removed is examined by shining infrared light through it and reading the pattern that comes back, which identifies the materials it is built from. Urinary stones are the usual reason for the test, though a stone from a salivary gland, the gallbladder or another site can be analyzed in the same way. The findings guide the diet, fluid and medicine changes used to keep another stone from forming.
