A test that reads through the entire MECP2 gene looking for any change that could explain a child's symptoms. Changes in this gene cause Rett syndrome, a disorder of brain development seen mainly in girls, in which speech and hand skills are lost after a period of normal early growth. It is usually performed on a blood sample.
