A laboratory test on a sample of brain tumor tissue that checks whether a particular repair gene has been chemically switched off inside the tumor cells. When that gene is silenced, the tumor is less able to undo the damage caused by certain chemotherapy drugs. The result helps the cancer team judge how well that chemotherapy is likely to work.
