A laboratory test on blood, bone marrow, or tissue that examines how B cells, a type of white blood cell, have rearranged their antibody genes. If a large share of the cells carry exactly the same rearrangement, they all descend from one cell, which supports a diagnosis of a B-cell cancer such as lymphoma. A varied pattern points instead to a normal immune reaction.
