Cells that normally fight infection each have a slightly different pattern; when a large group of cells all show the exact same pattern, it suggests they descended from a single abnormal cell rather than being part of a normal, diverse immune response. It is commonly used to help diagnose or monitor certain blood or lymph node cancers.
