A laboratory test performed on a tissue sample from a tumor that looks for a rearrangement in which part of an NTRK gene has become joined to a different gene. Tumors carrying one of these fusions can sometimes be treated with a drug aimed specifically at the abnormal protein it produces. The test examines the tumor material itself.
