A blood or bone marrow test that reads a specific region of the ABL1 gene, looking for changes that let leukemia cells resist targeted drug treatment. It is used when a leukemia that had been under control starts to progress again, to work out which drug is likely to work next. Only the part of the gene where these resistance changes arise is examined.
