Kidney Function Test With a Tracer

A measurement of how well the kidneys are clearing waste, made by injecting a small amount of radioactive tracer into a vein and then measuring how quickly it disappears from blood or urine samples. No pictures of the kidneys are taken; the result is a number for kidney filtering function. It is more precise than an estimate calculated from a routine blood test.
