Nuclear Kidney Scan With A Medicine Given During It

North Carolina rates for HCPCS 78708

A small amount of radioactive tracer is injected and a camera follows it through the kidneys to show their shape, their blood flow, and how well they clear fluid. In this version a medicine is also given during the study, either a water tablet or a blood-pressure drug, and the images before and after are compared to see how the kidneys respond. That response helps tell a true blockage from a roomy but unobstructed drainage system, or reveal a narrowed artery feeding a kidney.
