Nuclear Scan for Active Bowel Bleeding

Idaho rates for HCPCS 78278

A nuclear scan used to find where bleeding is coming from in the digestive tract. The patient's own red blood cells are labeled with a tracer and returned to the bloodstream, and the camera then watches for tracer collecting and moving inside the bowel, which marks the point where blood is escaping. It can catch bleeding that is too slow or too intermittent to find another way.
