Ultrasound Guidance for Vascular Access

Utah rates for HCPCS 76937

Before placing a needle or catheter into a vein or artery, for instance to insert a central line, the doctor uses real-time ultrasound to look at the blood vessel, confirm it is open and healthy, and watch the needle enter it. This guidance improves accuracy and safety compared to inserting a needle by feel alone, and it includes a permanent saved image plus a written report. It is billed in addition to the vascular access procedure itself, not as a stand-alone service.
