MRI of the Chest, Without and With Contrast

South Carolina rates for HCPCS 71552

A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan of the chest is performed first without any contrast dye and then again after contrast dye is injected into a vein, within the same visit. Comparing the two sets of images can help highlight blood vessels, masses, or areas of inflammation that may not be as clear on a single set of images. It provides more detailed information than a scan using only one of the two approaches.
