Removes the tear sac, the small pouch beside the nose that collects tears before they drain down into the nasal cavity. It is taken out when it is repeatedly infected, blocked, or contains a growth, and rebuilding the drainage route is not the aim. Tears afterwards run onto the cheek rather than draining away internally on that side.
