Eye surgery that divides bands of scar tissue that have stuck the inner lining of the eyelid to the surface of the eyeball. Freeing these bands lets the eyelid and eye move independently again and reopens the pocket between them. A thin shield or a soft lens is sometimes placed afterwards to keep the two surfaces apart while they heal.
