Reopening a Surgically Closed Eyelid

The reversal of a tarsorrhaphy, a procedure in which the upper and lower eyelids had previously been partially sewn together to protect the surface of the eye. Once the eye has healed enough or the protection is no longer needed, the stitches holding the lids together are cut and the eyelids are separated to restore normal opening and closing. It is a simple, quick procedure usually done in the office.
