A very fine needle is used to draw off a small amount of the clear fluid from the chamber at the front of the eye, just behind the cornea. It may be done to bring down pressure inside the eye quickly or to obtain fluid for laboratory testing. Numbing drops or an injection are used and it takes only a few minutes.
