Removes the whole eyeball while leaving the eyelids and the bony socket in place, and sets a rounded implant into the space behind. The muscles that used to move the eye are stitched onto that implant, so it swivels and the artificial eye fitted over it later moves in step with the other eye. It is done for a blind painful eye, severe injury, or a tumor inside the eye.
