Places a nerve stimulator that sends mild electrical pulses to a nerve in the neck. Through incisions in the neck and upper chest, an electrode is wrapped around the nerve and a small pulse generator is implanted under the skin and connected to it. It is used mainly to reduce seizures in epilepsy that medicine has not controlled, and for some cases of hard-to-treat depression.
