Continuous Nerve Block Beside The Chest Spine

Vermont rates for HCPCS 64463

A fine catheter is placed alongside the spine in the chest, in the space where the nerves emerge from between the ribs, and numbing medicine is delivered through it continuously rather than as a single injection. It numbs one side of the chest wall to control pain after chest or breast surgery or after rib fractures. Ultrasound or X-ray is used to guide the catheter into position where needed.
