Removal of a Tumor From the Spinal Canal

Pennsylvania rates for HCPCS 63286

Part of the bony arch at the back of a vertebra is removed to open the spinal canal, and a tumor lying against or within the spinal cord is sampled or taken out. The work is done under a microscope because the cord and its blood supply sit immediately alongside. Opening the canal also relieves the pressure the growth has been putting on the cord.
