Removes a tumor that lies inside the covering of the spinal canal but outside the nerve tissue itself, in the lower back. Bone at the back of the spine is taken off so the covering can be opened and the tumor lifted away from the nerve roots, and the covering is then sealed. Relieving the pressure protects leg strength, feeling, and bladder control.
