Removes part of the bony arch at the back of a lower spine bone to reach and clear out a lesion pressing on the spinal nerves from outside the covering of the spinal cord, such as a collection of blood, pus or a cyst. Taking the pressure off relieves pain, numbness or weakness in the legs. It is an open operation done under general anesthesia.
