Removes the main block-shaped body of one bone in the neck portion of the spine, working through an incision at the front of the neck, to take pressure off the spinal cord and nerve roots. Bone spurs, disc material, and other tissue pressing on the nerves are cleared away. It is done for compression causing pain, numbness, weakness, or trouble with balance and hand use.
