Removes the bony arch at the back of a lower spine vertebra, together with the abnormal joint and bone segments, to take pressure off the nerve roots and the bundle of nerves running down the spinal canal. It is used when one vertebra has shifted forward on the one below and loose bone is pinching the nerves. It relieves the leg pain, numbness and weakness that pressure causes.
