Removal of a Brain Lobe Outside the Temporal Lobe

Brain surgery in which a section of the skull is temporarily lifted so the surgeon can remove part or all of a lobe of the brain other than the temporal lobe. It is most often done to stop seizures that have not responded to medication, by taking out the area where they begin. The piece of skull is replaced at the end of the operation.
