Removal Of A Brain Abscess, Upper Brain

Vermont rates for HCPCS 61514

Opens the skull to reach a pocket of infection in the upper part of the brain and remove the pus together with the capsule around it. Clearing the infection relieves pressure on the brain and lets antibiotics work on whatever is left behind. The opening may be a small drilled hole, a piece of bone taken out and left out, or a bone flap lifted and put back at the end.
